Back From Michigan…2660 Miles Later

Oct 13th, 2008 by Christo & Melissa Philip

Sorry we have not posted in a while.  We were on vacation the first week of October to visit my sister, Chrisly, in Battle Creek, Michigan and since we got back I’ve been working long days in Labor & Delivery at Parkland until today, which was my first day off since I got back to work.  We had a wonderful time hanging out with Chrisly and enjoying the beautiful fall weather in Michigan.  The leaves had started to change in Battle Creek although they were not at the height of their fall color but the kids still enjoyed getting to play with all the fallen leaves.

One the way up to Michigan we spent a night in Nashville to visit our great friends, Kenny and Katie Unruh.  Kenny is doing his residency in orthopedic surgery at Vanderbilt and so I got to compare stories of residency with him and Melissa got to catch-up with Katie.  They were great hosts to us and we enjoyed seeing their new home in Nashville.  Unfortunately we left the batteries for the camera in Texas and so no pictures from Nashville although we did manage to get pictures in Michigan once my mom and dad sent the battery over night to us!

We spent our time in Michigan by visiting the museum in Battle Creek, visiting Chrisly at her job at Kellogg and of course the highlight of the trip for Luke and Karuna…getting to meet Tony the Tiger.  Luke still says to says, “Go see To…Bye, Bye.”  Certainly Tony made a big impression in Luke’s memory.  We also got to spend a day exploring the wine country in Southwest Michigan and then getting an opportunity to visit Lake Michigan.  One of our hobbies is to visit local vineyards in different parts of the country we visit and we (meaning Christine and I) got to try some great wines at some fun local vineyards.  After that we visited some orchards, picked up some great apples (Honeycrisp apples) and then spent the afternoon at the Lake.

We left Michigan on Sunday afternoon of last week, stopped in Chicago to visit our favorite deep dish pizzeria (Lou Malnatis) and then drove 19 hours overnight to get back to Dallas…2660 miles later.  We’ll write more about this past week later but we wanted to put up the pictures from Michigan so that my sister Chrisly will stop calling me daily about it.  Enjoy!

What beautiful pictures! We love hearing about your travels and adventures. Tony the tiger - what fun! :) We miss you guys - I’ll keep trying to reach you, Melissa. :) David has been wanting to chat with Christo too…we should look at the calendars and set a date. :) Hugs to the bumpkins!
