Update and Some Pre-Graduation Pictures
Sorry about the lack of regular updates on the blog recently. We are still working on projects around the house that we hope to have done before Christo starts his residency orientation on June 23rd. This past week was filled with lots of cutting, sanding, staining and assembling of our new built-in book shelves that have taken the place of the TV/Entertainment area in our living room. We thought this would be a better use of that space since we don't own a TV and the books we have on the shelves often are a source of conversation with our guests.
We worked most of last week on cutting all the pieces to the right size and sanding them and the kiddos went to Christo's parents house for a couple of nights so that we could work on demolishing some of the walls to make space for the bookshelves. It was quite surprising to see some of the things that were left behind in the walls including a packet of peanuts, some drywall tape, and a box of screws! Then on the weekend we worked together to put the shelves together in sections while Christo's parents watched over the kids. We have now finished assembling most of the shelves and now just need to finish putting on the trim.
In other news, we will be starting the process of getting ourselves involved with the foster care system again here in Texas. This Thursday we will be attending a meeting to see if we would like to become Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) which are individuals that represent the interests of neglected and abused children in the foster care system. We thought this would be something worthwhile to explore being involved with in case it takes us a while to get licensed to do foster care in Texas. You can read more about CASAs in Texas at http://www.texascasa.org/. There is a national site for CASAs as well which you can visit here: http://www.nationalcasa.org/. Please be praying that God would give us wisdom regarding what type of program he would have us be involved with.
This weekend should also be a really fun weekend for us with lots of friends and family in town. Our dear friends Eric and Kristy will be coming to visit us with their daughter, Anna this weekend. They work with a ministry called Destino (which is an outreach to Hispanic students to reach them for Christ). This weekend Christo's cousins Benjamin and his wife Miriam and daughter Lydia along with Stephen and his wife Rachel and son Ashish will be coming to Dallas. We should have lots of times to laugh and reconnect with friends and family this weekend.
Christo is still working on getting together the pictures from graduation and ones of our house but we wanted to post some of the pictures from the pre-graduation festivities and some pictures Christo took around the Mayo campus to remember Mayo Clinic by. Enjoy!
