Pre-Orientation Update & Graduation Pictures

22 Jun

Just wanted to put up a brief update of our weekend before the week of orientation begins for Christo at Parkland. We had another busy weekend with lots of activities and plenty of home improvement including finishing painting the downstairs portion of our house. We will try to tackle the upstairs rooms this week. Daisy has been doing great with us so far. She has had lots of time this weekend to explore our backyard and our neighborhood on our walks.

The kiddos spent Friday and Saturday night at Christo’s parents house so that we could work on painting the house without Luke and Karuna trying to “help.” On Saturday morning we went to an informational meeting regarding foster care in the Region 3 Area of Texas. We were excited to hear about the opportunities for us to continue doing foster care in Texas and were sobered by the incredible need for foster care and adoptive parents in Texas. There are over 4000 children in Dallas county alone that are put into foster care and greater than 700 kids are in need of adoption in Region 3 alone. We hope to start the process of getting our foster care / adoption license in Texas over the next couple of months as we try to work around Christo’s schedule to make it possible for both of us to be able to attend the courses. Our hope is that because God has blessed us with a very spacious home that we will be able to provide foster care for sibling groups so that children from a family do not have to be split up for them to find homes. Even though we are primarily planning on adopting children when we get back to India, we thought we would go ahead and get our adoption license as well. That way if we get a foster care placement and we feel that God is leading us to adopt that child/children if they are not able to be reunited with their families, then we would have minimal obstacles to make that possible. Please keep us in your prayers as we seek to purse doing foster care in Texas and pray that God would give us the strength to go through the whole process.

Then on Saturday evening we attended the Emergency Medicine Intern Welcome Party at one of the attending’s houses and had a good time meeting other interns from Christo’s class along with meeting some of the current residents. We then went over the Christo’s family’s house for another family get together before finally arriving home completly exhausted. Sunday was another great day to worship with the believers at West Dallas Community Church and we once again throughly enjoyed Pastor Wilson’s sermon on living a life of humility.

We wanted to put up some more pictures from Christo’s medical school graduation from Mayo and from our farewell dinner with our Bible study group in Rochester. We are trying to finally get caught up with picture posting but it might be a couple more weeks yet. You can view the slideshow for the Medical School Graduation and Bible Study Farewell Dinner or just click on the pictures to view individual photos. Have a wonderful week!
